About us
“An outstanding school” Ofsted report 2006/2007.
Primary schools are vitally important as this is where the foundations for your child’s education are first laid and their journey into the exciting and challenging world of learning begins.
Quite simply, West Jesmond Primary is determined and committed to giving your child the best education possible and maintaining the highest levels of standards.
We take pupils from reception age up to the age of 11. We currently have 600 pupils on the school roll and 75 members of staff.
The school is made up of three sections:
- Reception (children joining the school in September before they reach their 5th birthday)
- Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2 for children aged 5 - 7)
- Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 for children aged 7 - 11)
At every step of the way, we are here to help our pupils enjoy the learning experience, maintain a strong contact with parents and support them in their role of helping their child learn.
Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 30. Each year has their own Year Group Team of class teachers and classroom assistants.
Parents are able to state a preference for our school, regardless of where they live, unless the school is oversubscribed.
Children move on to Heaton Manor, The Royal Grammar School, Central Newcastle High School, King’s School in Tynemouth and Dame Allan’s School. We maintain close contact with these schools to provide continuity in our children's education.
