Eco at Home

As an Eco School Green Flag school we do everything we can to help the environment. We'd love to carry on our great work during the school closure. Here are some ideas for you to try.

Sustrans

Walking, cycling and scooting are great ways to keep active and healthy in body and mind. During this time where we are mostly required to stay at home, these activities can become harder to do.

Sustrans Outside In provides fun ideas and inspiration for parents to bring education, health and wellbeing activities into your home.

#EcoSchoolsatHome have got a challenge for any West Jesmond Wombles:

Take part in their #THEWOMBLESECOSCHOOL competition to be in with a chance to win a visit from Orinoco to our school and £500 to donate to a wildlife charity of our choice!

Oxfam

Oxfam Great Britain have created a new hub of learning resources for ages 7-14.
Every week, you’ll find a new topic to explore, focusing on the needs we all share – through simple, child-led activity ideas and engaging videos from around the world. You can access these resources by clicking on the link below:
City Nature Challenge

It is the City Nature Challenge from Friday 24th to Monday 27th April.

It's a great and easy activity for families at home to take part in. All you need is the free iNaturalist app on a phone or tablet.  Take a picture of a plant, animal or minibeast and upload it to the app.  Normally, this is a competition between regions but in the circumstances this year, it's being run more as a festival.  All the information gathered gets properly recorded and this works as a big bioblitz across not just the UK but the world.  Our area isn't just the city, but the whole of the North East region.
