The History of West Jesmond

Opened over one hundred years ago, West Jesmond Primary is a thriving, successful school. On 2 March 2009 pupils and staff moved into a superb, purpose-built new building. Building on the strengths and traditions of the original school, West Jesmond provides a broad and exciting education for children aged four to eleven. Providing children with a secure environment that actively encourages their academic, personal and social development is of the utmost importance.

The new surroundings have created a great sense of space and light, flexibility for education into the future and immense ICT capability. The school has a strong reputation for high standards and the latest Ofsted inspection judged them to be a good school with outstanding features.

Our new school building has a main school hall which can accommodate all our 600 pupils and 75-strong staff team with ease, or be sectioned into smaller learning environments.

The building has 28 classrooms, large themed open learning areas, library and a music suite with full stage lighting facilities.

Technology is an integral part of learning within the school. We have invested in high quality, educationally-effective ICT within the school which is entirely wireless.

We encourage active, healthy living. The new school boasts a dedicated soft play space for reception classes, a covered outdoor recreation area, full size netball court with bench seating, football pens and a traversing wall.

We embrace green living and thinking at West Jesmond Primary. Our new school has been designed and built to be energy efficient and sustainable. It is fitted with energy saving devices and measures including a biomass boiler which uses wood pellets.
