National Curriculum England - Computing Programme of Study - DfE 2014
A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.
At West Jesmond children are encouraged to use their knowledge of the world around them and computational thinking to help them access the wider curriculum. Being able to decompose problems and abstract irrelevant details is an important skill for later life. We are dedicated to providing an engaging and stimulating curriculum where children have opportunities to explore their computer science concepts from unplugged, digital and physical programming.
Computing Quality Mark
We have recently been awarded the National Center for Computing Education's Computing Quality Mark as part of the Computing Quality Framework. This means that we provided an outstanding computing education to our children and are continuing to ensure the children are encouraged to become positive 'Digital Citizens'.
