New Reception Starters September 2024

Welcome to our 'New Reception Starters' page for parents and carers.  We hope that you find all of the information here to help your child have a happy and successful start at West Jesmond Primary School. Starting school is such an important time for each child and we will do all we can to help you and your child feel welcome, confident and excited about this new adventure.
In order to support this transition from Nursery into Reception, we will be holding Parent Welcome meetings which will focus on talking you through everything you will need to know about West Jesmond Primary School, the arrangements for the start of September and useful information on details such as uniform, milk and PE days. There will also be a separate opportunity for you and your child to visit the classroom and meet their class teacher.
Throughout this time, we will communicate with you via this webpage and Weduc. We will also add to this page with stories from class teachers and more photos, so please keep checking in!
Over the next few weeks, we will make every effort to visit all of the children at their Nursery, so we can be a familiar face and also have conversations with each child's key worker.
On this page, there is a short video showing a Day in Reception and lots of photographs. These may be useful to share with your child so they can begin to feel familiar with their new school.
At any point through this process, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or the office and we will be happy to help.

Our Welcome meetings will be held on Wednesday 12th June at 6.30 and on Monday 17th June at 9.15. We hope you are able to attend one of these meetings as a chance to ask any questions, learn about the start of school process and meet your child's class teacher. You will have received a letter containing this information, but if you have not had the chance to respond to your letter, please ring or email the office to let us know which of the meetings you will be attending.

Weduc is our parent communication app. All communication from school will come via Weduc, so please ensure you have enrolled. Attached is some guidance on how to download and use the app. You will have received your enrollment code via the email address you completed on your registration forms.
If you need any help with getting online with Weduc, please contact the school office. There will also be staff to help you with Weduc at the Welcome meeting.
